Phase III - Developing Competency Profiles

Building the 1st draft competency profile

In developing job competency profiles, there are a number of possible options to consider, depending on time and cost constraints. Phase III, IV and V of this model is a suggested approach for the development of competency profiles.

Conducting the first expert/manager panel. An expert/manager panel session is convened for each of the competency profiles to be built. This is a working session of managers/clients who have in-depth knowledge of the organization and the positions within the role under review, and who have a good understanding of the strategic direction of the organization in general, and of the role in particular. This session focuses on the critical success factors for the roles, the activities and responsibilities, the technical skills and knowledge required, the behavioural competencies believed to be associated with successful job performance, the required levels for these roles (target levels or measurement criteria), and the relative importance of the competencies. Each session lasts approximately one day.
